I would like to see if my late grandfather's John Deere 50 vegetable tractor may still be floating around New Jersey or a nearby state. This tractor spent its life in Mullica Hill, NJ and was sold in the mid-late 1980's or early 1990's, but unfortunately most of the people who remember anything about it have passed away and I am not sure if it was sold complete - my grandfather could not remember where it went after he sold it. I just want to see what might still be out there. The black and white picture is the only one I have of the actual tractor (taken in the early 60's). The other ones pictured are local units I found that are similarly-equipped, but I have confirmed they are NOT the one in question. I don't currently have a serial number, but these are the details I know about the tractor:
6.50x16" single front wheel
12.4x38 Safemark rear tires (installed in 1971)
F1478R dished offset rear wheels (would have been mounted with the dish to the outside and the tires/rims out as wide as possible)
Long rear axles and B3140R long axle housing
800 or 801 three-point hitch
Rear hydraulic outlets/hookups and hoses for a 45 loader or a rear implement
Obvious signs of wear from the loader (broken/missing studs in the front of the axle housing, or worn holes in the frame rails where the mounts would have been)
Left-hand Powr-Trol remote lever
NO front cultivator mounting brackets or hardware (tractor only ever ran a 45 loader and pulled a 4-row transplanter)
PTO was rarely used
New starter switch installed 4/28/73, new generator/regulator 7/5/73, new distributor cap/rotor 4/22/76
Per the JD archives, these are the possible serial numbers of units that were sold from our local dealership (where the tractor was bought originally):
I realize this is a long shot, but if anyone knows of any John Deere 50's with these serial numbers, or a 50 sitting in someone's collection, on a farm, in a barn, or in a hedgerow somewhere and it has the longer rear axles and single front wheel, please let me know! I would like to see what might still be out there. Please email me if you know of one. Thanks!
